New CPU and mobo question

Go to solution Solved by Godlygamer23,

So, I could just put in my product key after changing my hardware and re-installing windows 8 without asking Microsoft to de-activate it?

Correct.

I'm going to upgrade to some 990fx board and an AMD 8320 in the near future, will I need to re-install windows after installing them? I've heard that windows only likes working with the hardware it was installed with, is this true?

If the version of Windows is retail, calling Microsoft is not a requirement. It'll activate.

Correct me if I am wrong but windows basically defines a computer by the mobo

So everything else can be changed without issue but the mobo

Definitely, as long as you uninstall and install the appropriate drivers. It's a different story with the motherboard though, especially if you're gonna use another chipset. :)

I also upgraded CPU and Mobo and I didn't re-install Windows, even didn't delete old drivers. Just installed new drivers for new hardware and PC's working fine so far :)
