System using alot or ram

Go to solution Solved by Power,

That's just your system cache, it stores some stuff your system accesses frequently in the memory for quick access.

This tool should clean it if you wish to.

Hi all,

My system seems to be using alot of memory. It has 8gig ram and at boot up it is using around 1.5 to 2 gig which is normal and fine as I have alot of thing running.

After I load up a few things it ends up using 4-5 gig of ram but if I close the programs I have open I don't get all the memory back the system is still using 3-3.5 gig of ram any ideas ?

I have checked task manager and what is being used in there dose'nt add up to the amount being used. The system runs fine and fast but I was just wondering were my ram was going.

My pc spec:

Motherboard:     Asus maximus vi hero z87

CPU:                      i4770k

RAM:                     Corsair dominator platinum 2400mhz 8gig

GPU:                     EVGA GTX 680 sc x2 in sli

Power:                  Corsair ax1200i

SSD:                       OCZ vertex 3 240gig x2 in raid 0

HDD:                      Seagate 2TB

SSD:                       Samsung 840 250gig

Chances are it's just your OS using more RAM in the background

I am good at computer

Also, are you sure you added up right? 1000MB doesn't equal 1GB, 1024MB equals one gigabyte

Check Task Manager and look for what processes are using a lot of RAM.

I'm using 4.6gb right now with just a few chrome tabs open. Press CTRL + shift + ESC then sort it by memory usage, then you'll see what's using up all your RAM.
