My initial guess is that the hard drive went ka-put on you. As for the Keyboard/Mouse not working, I've got a theory but I'll let someone else with their expertise chime in (Use an older PS/2 Keyboard/mouse).

Edit: Check your cable connections to your drives inside the computer.

Use a different drive and do an install of either windows or linux (if you are familiar with it)

DO NOT have the original drive plugged in when you do this

After the install is done and you can get to a desktop, turn off the PC, plug in the original drive as a 2nd drive, then boot

You should boot into the OS you installed on the 2nd drive, when you do, retrieve your pics / data onto an external drive (the original drive may be accessible but not as a boot device)

Afterwards, do a drive assessment of the failing drive or just buy a new drive and use it to do a permanent installation of your choice

Do all the updates, etc. THEN add your data back to it

If you have access to a working PC, you can skip the first steps and plug the original drive in as a secondary then get your data

It's even easier if you have a USB external drive dock

Hint: this all works easier if you ALWAYS have a backup of your data on an external source, in case of say, a drive failure *herp*

Good luck
