I posted yesterday about cooling concerns, but I'm not going to revive a thread that has nothing to do with my forthcoming questions I figured I would ask all of my questions now. I already have the case (Define R4) so that will not be included in the specs.

BUILD AIM: GAMING

MY CURRENT SPECS (LINK)

Questions:

- What sort of PSU would compliment this build?

- At the moment I really don't plan on overclocking that much, if at all. Would the i5-4670 be a better fit than the 4670K.

- Pertaining to the last question, would I need another motherboard altogether if I was going with the i5-4670 as opposed to the 4670K. I remember reading somewhere that the Z87 series motherboards were optimized for overclocking.

- Is 16GB of RAM necessary for this if I'm just gaming? I might stream in the future, but I'm building this with just gaming in mind. Would 8GB be ample memory?

- What are the benefits of sound cards?

- Some reccomended LEDs for the case? I don't want my windowed side panel going to waste.

Well, that's it for now. Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Provided the wrong link. My apologies.

Do you have a video card in mind because I am not seeing one in the parts list.

1. PSU anything from a reputable brand like Seasonic or Corsair.

2. If you're not overclocking get a non -k processor

3. Since you're not going to overclock just stick with the H77 motherboard. I have it and it works well for its purpose

4. You don't need 16Gb of RAM unless you're going to be editing videos But since you want to stream later on I would stick with the i7 if you have the budget

5.BitFenix alchemy.

CPU: Intel core i5 3570 Motherboard: Gigabyte-H77-DS3H Case: Fractal Design Define R4 Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB  GPU: MSI Radeon HD 7950 Twin Frozr III Cooler: CM Hyper 212 Evo RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB  PSU: Seasonic G Series 550W

Acer Aspire S7 Overview Sennheiser PC360

-a xfx 550w would be good for expansion, but if your in a itx system I would get this http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/seasonic-power-supply-ssr550rm

-if you don't plan on overclocking then just get a non-k chip

-H87 can't overclock anymore and Z87 does overclock

-8gb is fine

-better sound, but if you have an itx system you can't put a better one in if you have a graphics card

-nzxt hue if you have a free 5.25 bay

What's your current spec list?

Read this if you haven't already: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/3061-build-plan-thread-reccomendations-please-read-before-posting/

It helps us help you.

Considering you're getting a 780, a 600-650w would be plenty.

If you're not overclocking, a 4430 would do.

z87 is less 'optimized' for overclocking--it's more like it's the only chipset to get if you want to be able to overclock.

For the mobo, just get the cheapest B87/H87 chipset you can find.

8GB ram will be plenty.

Sound cards help push high impedance headphones and other sound systems. Basically, it really shines when you have a decent audio hardware.

Like others have said already--Bitfenix alchemy for lights.

I didn't even realize that was a link ._. Sometimes it's just easier to leave the url.

You don't plan to sli, correct? Are you sticking to your theme of black?

Yeah, just a single card set up. In terms of everything being black, it doesn't really matter. It's purely circumstantial that everything is black.

Here's my suggestions: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1qDc9

I retained the original black theme.

Reasoning for each part:

Motherboard--the performance will remain the same and you save some money.

Ram--8GB will be plenty. 16GB would be recommended if you ever move into content creation but you can always just add another 8GB kit for a total of 16GB which is plenty for even light editing/rendering.

HDD--No need for a caviar black when you already have an ssd. The barracuda is a good performer and good value.

GPU--Better cooler and performance at stock--Will overclock better. If you dig the look of the Titan cooler, you can get that if you want.

PSU--Was cheaper and had plenty of headroom. If you must have fully modular, get this: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/ocz-power-supply-oczzt650w

It was cheaper but it didn't match the theme so I went for the cx750m instead.

OS--64 bit because the 32 bit only supports up to 4GB of ram.

With my Define R4 case and the Dark Rock 2, what would be optimal overclocking on the CPU. Then what would be good on the 780?

I'm guessing 4.5 ghz on the cpu. As for the 780...I'm not sure.

Just see how far you can push it for both. Each chip is different.

Would the Asus 780 DirectCU II be better because it has two fans on heatsink? Same with the EVGA 780 that has the ACX cooling. Do they really make a difference?

It would be better but it's definitely not worth the extra money. Any dual/triple fan cooler will be much better than a single fan and won't be too rar from each other in performance.

That's what I figured. Now, a question about the motherboard you recommended. Is there one similar with more USB 2.0 ports in the back? I love the price on that, but there is only two ports in the back.

It also has 4 usb 3.0 ports in the back. Usb 3.0 is backwards compatible with 2.0.

I feel dumb now.  :P. It won't be for another month or so that I can actually get a hold of everything, so I do have a lot to think about. Any last recommendations?

Not really. Just come back to the forum to double check a few days before ordering. Parts and prices change frequently.
