This is really my first day here, but I am curious if this has been done successfully that yields good results. I know that it is possible, because you can build anything into anything, but would it provide similar results to my gaming PC case. Yes I do understand that there is less volume so chances of higher heat. However, those are just variables and until they are bench marked we have no clue.

I am not looking for the its a stupid idea, or waste of time. I am looking for actual concrete data.

I am thinking about doing this, but like many of us, I am on a tight budget and would not want to spend cash on something that would ruin my system.

The reason behind this is because I am working on my CCNP and have a gigantic 48u rack next to my desk and my gaming PC on a shelf in the rack. However, I need to add some more network equipment for testing. Then as a network guy, I think it would propose a bad ass clean look to my rack to have my gaming PC actually mounted. I have seen a hack job build on youtube, but they did not post performance results.

I dont see why it wouldnt work :P Just put it at the top so the heat goes out into the air rather than hitting other parts of your server,

you can get 4u rackmount cases that are pretty much a normal case inside.

they're nothing near the quality of a desktop case tho, for a much higher price.

I do agree. The rosewill RSV 400 that I use is overpriced for what it is but you pay what it is i f you need it.

A case is a case. It will work, just that it may not work as well as a case designed for optimal cooling of a gaming pc. One of those 4U cases with the ton of fans to cool HHDs should solve that problem.
