GPU overclock confusion.

I know how to overclock and been overclocking my gpu for a while, but it still costs me confusion.

Like in MSI afterburner, it would have Core clock: +150, Mem clock: +500.

and then i would go on forum, and people would say "my gpu run @ 1600mhz"

I dont understand what they are saying, please help me and explain.

you must have an nvidia gpu. nvidia uses offsets to represent changes in core and memory clock speeds

 

when someone says 1600 mhz they are most likely referring to an amd card because that's what shows up in msi ab with amd

 

that being said, if you want to view your core and memory clock in frequency terms, open up gpu-z and look at the first tab at the bottom

well not really, because i would look up gtx 970 overclock result, and they would say 1600mhz

So run afterburner while playing a game.

The max core clock graph will show a different number than your core clock would suggest due to gpu boost.

People report max boost under ideal cases (aka no thermal limiting).

For my 980ti, my +279 core clock results in a max turbo of 1507-1514.

Likewise memory is the same way.

My +499 memclock results in an overall 8004 mhz memory clock under load.

This is what the card is actually running at, like BigDay said, Nvidia uses offsets in overclocking software. Your card is not actually running at 150mhz, rather you are making your card run 150mhz faster than its base. 

 

You can see what your card is actually running at by opening a benchmark or a game and looking at what the clock speed is at in MSI Afterburner / other software like GPU-z.

yeah i have 2 gtx 970. its in my signature

With a modded bios on some of the better 970s, 1600 is entirely possible.  Mine are overclocked to 1592mhz (+61 GPU offset with the way I have my bios set up).
