Will this PC do for my girlfriend?

c_marriott

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/wgnPBm

She will only want to do work and simple games like Sims on it, maybe some other types later on.

The GPU, Case and PSU are all my old ones so that's why they're there.

Do you think it will be fine? The parts are on their way but just wanted to be sure.

She also has another HDD for other files so she'll have around 400GB overall

Perhaps consider a SSD, it makes for a great boost for every day tasks.

So, essentially an office PC with a beefier GPU. Should be just fine, imo

For that use case an APU and SSD, would probably be a better bet.

SSD is a bit unnecessary since she needs to spend as little as possible, I didn't have one for a year and I was fine.

The processor is because I want to last as long as possible, I thought an i3 would last for a pretty good time and as I already had the GPU to give may as well spend more on the CPU

why the hell is there only 1 stick of RAM

get 2 for dual channel

She may want more later on and as that MOBO only has 2 slots she'll have the option to.

EDIT: Forgot to reply to the RAM bit oops

Seems fine to me. It will handle games like Sims and other light gaming easily. Don't worry about it. :) Is it 1080p gaming?

Ignore me, I didn't even notice you already owned the GPU. You've got your best bet there.

I believe so, I think her screen is 1080p. I've been running games at 1050 on it fine but obviously there's a slight difference

A friend had a 7770 until recently, it was doing fine at 1080p medium. And games that support Mantle will run even better. I was fine with a GTX 465 until last year and it's slightly better than a 7770. :D

Run games at 900p and scale them up to 1080p :D

I don't see Sims needing too much graphical power, I'll get her to do it for other games though thanks :)

get 2 for dual channel

because buying 2 sticks of ram of smaller capacity is stupid and a waist of money?

buy 2x4 and your slots are full, want to upgrade your memory? LOL you have to spend twice as much and buy two new sticks instead of just putting in one, and the performance gain from dual channel is basically nothing especially for mainstream users, it might make a difference for wayy more high end stuff but then what are you doing with a core i3, h81, 8 gigs ram etc.?

Motherboard is too much and when looking at the 4170 was out of stock and she needed the computer asap so didn't have much choice
