I'm looking to build a small ITX PC for recording and streaming only. I do not plan on gaming on it. The idea of this PC is to be able to use it to take any HDMI input and then stream or record all of that video. In many situations I'm over at a friends house or at my own house where I need to be able to plug it into anywhere then record and stream.

A few questions.

If it had a capture card would I need a GPU?

Would I need anything more then a simple i5 CPU?

Any parts advice would be welcomed.

I guess you could get the AMD A10-7870k APU, the iGPU part of these CPUs is way better than what Intel put in their 4th gen CPUs, and the 4 cored CPU part is decent as well, allows relatively easy overclocks, the APU itself can handle GTA V around 40+ FPS @1080p (Yes, I know you won't game on it, it's just a comparison of how suprisingly good it is).
It should also be cheaper than the i5. There are even cheaper versions of it as well, the 7850k etc.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT 16GB GDDR6 Motherboard: MSI PRESTIGE X570 CREATION
AIO: Corsair H150i Pro RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 32GB 3600MHz DDR4 Case: Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic PSU: Corsair RM850x White

well, you really dont need more than intel integrated graphics for streaming.

the extra cpu horsepower of intel is nice to have for streaming as well.

EDIT: and intel is a bit easier to keep cool in a small form factor as well.

Well yeah, I would just prefer to have a better iGPU if the PC isn't going to have a dedicated one.

It all also depends on the budget you've got there for this streaming PC, you did not specify it, budgets are usually pretty limited so the APU is a good, budget choice =)

well... i'm quoting someone from the last topic about a streaming pc i participated in:

"lirik openly stated his streaming rig has a $50 GPU"

thats how much GPU matters in streaming boxes.
