H110 mounting issue

Im trying to install my h110 on a MSI X99s gaming 7 motherboard and it seems like the screws are too short to screw into the backplate when i place the cooler on the cpu.

 

Am i meant to press down really hard in order to get it to tighten or is there something im doing wrong and it should just easily screw in.
