It's 24.99 at NCIX Canada. It's in stock too.

Ah cool.  I had only checked NCIX USA.  But with shipping from Canada the price comes to almost 40 bucks.  I think I'll wait until a USA E-tailer has them in stock.  It shows on NCIX USA that there are some coming to their LA location so I'll just hold out.  Thank you though :)

how does the backplate reduce heat?

It does not really do that, maybe just a little bit. The thing why you want a backplate is for it to prevent sagging off the video cards. If you dont know what sagging is. Its the video cards PCB bending slightly so it looks like this.

NZXT Phantom windowed, Asus Z77 Sabertooth, Intel 2600K, Noctua NH-D14, EVGA 780 Classified, Crucial Ballistic Tactical, Crucial M4 128GB + Samsung 850 EVO, Corsair RM850, Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty Peripherals: Sennheiser HD598, FinalMouse Classic, SteelSeries Qck Heavy, Ducky Shine Zero (MX Brown), AOC G2460PF & Qnix QX2710

Build Log: Phantom - Antique Noctua
