Would you do this?

Say there was  magical deal where these things would happen:

- You would be 30kg over your healthy weight limit or more, you can't go lower than that by magical means.

- You can still eat whatever you want, healthy, right amount of calories, however, you can never shed off that 30kg

-The deal is not reversible until of course you die, then somebody else can accept it

- Everybody would know about this in your country, you will get fame and people will respect you greatly for it of course.

In return you get:

- Your respective countries obesity problems disappear in an instant, all people who are overweight or obese get thin again instantly by magical means.

- Also, they can't get fat anymore very easy, they will all have increased metabolism, regardless, it's still possible to get fat, but it's harder.

- A pretty good salary from your government for life monthly, for being the price they have to pay. This means you don't have to work anymore. We are talking 8000 euro's a month here. (convert that to your currency and it's worth at this moment)

I don't know if I would do this, seems like a pretty good deal to me but.....you can never get to a good weight again.

But is being 30kg above your healthy weight actually going to be healthy?

Don't think so, it's fat, not muscle, soooo nope. :P It's only detrimental to your health. But even then, not that much.

Not saying being thin is automatically being healthy btw, if you think that.

I thought you were saying you'd still be healthy even with 30kg more weight.  :P

As to whether I would do this, I'd say no. First of all, I don't have enough of a need to go to this extent to stay healthy, and by having the rest of my country's obesity problems disappear, wouldn't that encourage people to eat more unhealthy food that contributes significant amounts of pollution to the atmosphere?

Yes, you are right. People also can get fat again, so you have to trust on it that most people won't screw you over by doing these things.

Yep, however, I do think it will be easier for most people mentally by giving them this gift, they will probably go on a good diet if they can to keep it up.

It's hard to say until we see at least the outcome of other similar events (not the magic portion but a scenario where an obese individual experiences being a healthy weight but can easily return to an unhealthy weight). If it really would be that effective I'd definitely consider it.

I think it would be fairly effective. :P But we can't know for sure indeed.

Food doesnt really have an effect on the atmosphere (maybe those bean burritos).

This would entice more people to walk or bike instead of drive.

AAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHH!!!!

http://news.stanford.edu/news/2010/march/livestock-revolution-environment-031610.html:

"

  • More than 1.7 billion animals are used in livestock production worldwide and occupy more than one-fourth of the Earth's land.
  • Production of animal feed consumes about one-third of total arable land.
  • The livestock sector, including feed production and transport, is responsible for about 18 percent of all greenhouse gas emissions worldwide.

"

That's just livestock. If that isn't environmentally unfriendly, I don't know what is.
