Xbox 1 External Hard Drive problems

grimmjow660

Anyone know how to get the Xbox One to detect an external hdd in the rear usb ports?

It only detects in the side port for some reason.

I have a Western Digital Passport Ultra 2tb portable

Why not just use it in the side port?

Why not just use it in the side port?

I prefer it in the rear so it's out of the way

Hey there grimmjow660,

You should be able to use external drive on all USB ports on the console. All three ports should be USB 3.0 and should support external storage above 256GB. I would contact the manufacturer's support and ask for some advice. It may be the case that the Side port supplies more power, compared to the Back ports and you may have to use a Y-cable, but I doubt that. See what the support says and post back with a solution (if you found one elsewhere). :)
You can also check the health of the drive on a PC using WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool just to be on the safe side that it's not causing the problem. Here's a link to the tool: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=0mWQp3

Feel free to ask if you happen to have other questions that I can help with :)

reformat the drive and delete the partitions on it

and remake them

if it still doesn't show up

then the usb port is either bad or not suppling enough power

Ive seen this quit a few times on xbone
