Hamachi is a vpn software package, just a tool used to easily make local servers 'public' to those in your vpn gorup.

I'd recommend evolve for gaming with your friends, or setting up an actual server for public use

hamachi is meant for buisiness use (paid) or for small groups that need to be on a "fake" LAN enviroment semi-permanently.

 

however i feel like logmein's development team is quite lacking, since it took them about half way into the dev cycle of windows 8.1 to finally produce a fully working hamachi build for W8.1.

that said, hamachi is the WORST idea ever for anything public, because you're basicly creating a direct line to your machine for anyone on the net.

its fine, as long as its just among friends.
