external GPU for mac

 eGPU Setup: Macbook Pro 13" 16GB DDR3 RAM, 512GB SSD, i5 3210M, GTX 980 eGPU

New PC: i7-4790k, Corsair H100iGTX, ASrock Fatal1ty Z97 Killer, 24GB Ram, 850 EVO 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD, GTX 1080 Fractal Design R4, EVGA Supernova G2 650W

Its much more complicated then deciding in parts. You gotta really evaluate it. Its very hard to get it working. You'll also need a desktop PSU and a jumper. Also you need to fiddle with kernal stuffs if you want it to work in OSX. But basically yes, get that.

on Windows its plug and play, if thats what your asking.

oh and make sure you get an Nvidia GPU if your gonna use it on OSX, cause some OSX applications like CUDA alot

Making a eGPU work in OSX has become extremly simple. A user wrote an open source script to do all the work in OSX.

You just need the hardware, connect it, run the script, reboot -> profit.

 

Yesterday I tested to daisy chain two eGPUs in OSX and was able to run 8 displays in OSX on one TB connection.
