Comparing lower end graphics cards for a friends build

RadSalacan

So I'm putting together a lower end PC for a friend who wants to be able to game at medium setting at 1080.  I had picked him out a GTX 950 and paired it with an intel 4440 on an H81 board with 8 gigs of 1600 ram.  Since I'm not exactly up to speed on some of the other AMD CPUs/chipsets and GPUs...could anyone suggest a better performing setup for roughly the same price.  He has somewhere around 600 bucks to play with.  Thanks for any tips and suggetions

Great, thanks guys.  Got a few ideas here I hadn't found myself.  Gonna make a few tweaks to these and get him a really nice rig for the money.
