Replacement power supply

Go to solution Solved by don_svetlio,

Do you think I should go for that then? Or is there anything else I should take a look at. I have been reading a bit about the 750W and the 860W platinum series and they look very good so far.

X-series is more than enough.

Hi,

I need a new power supply since my current one became unstable a while ago, probably due to lightning.

What is the best power supply I can buy that is about 800+ watts and that has a fanless or a very quiet fan profile?

Price is not that important as I am just looking for recommendations.

Thanks in advance :)

I have an AX860i. It will keep my pc running for 15 minutes to several hours sometimes, but will eventually supply inconsistent power and shut down.

EVGA G2 is very quiet. However your PSU is under warranty to why not just RMA it?

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

I can't RMA because of a modification I made to it.

I would also like to have a different model this time around as my current power supply has a bit of coil whine.

Where are you shopping/located? What are you powering?

I am located in Sweden.

The computer I am using has a 4770K, a GTX 780ti, 2 SSDs in raid 0 and a PCI-express drive.

If I remember correctly, corsair link reported that the system used about 400 to 500 watts under load. I would however like to be able to run sli sometime in the future and to have the fan not spin as often as possible. That is why I went for 800+ watts.

SeaSonic X-series 750W is enough for SLI but get the 850W version if you really want to.

Am I getting anything else other than better efficiency and 2 years more warranty by going with the platinum series instead of the X-series?

Well - better build quality and higher quality components.
