If you build your case out of K'nex or just use the motherboard box, you can build a 2x2TB NAS vor $320 :P

At that price, the best option would indeed be to go for a prebuilt option. I don't have much experience with such NASes, but I know that the Netgear ReadyNAS Duo is a very reliable option. My neighbour has been running one 24/7/365 for the past 3.5 years.

 

Keep in mind that that Newegg link will drive you over your budget once you add in the hard drives.
