Which build?

c_marriott

My girlfriends brother needs a new PC, he's got this as an option for a prebuilt - http://www.ebuyer.com/671353-zoostorm-gaming-desktop-pc-7260-5046

Or this (that I picked out) for a custom built - http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/7t2Mt6

I have no idea what PSU is in the pre-built or the Mobo or the brand of hard drive. For all I know it could be some cheap crap.

CPU: FX-6300 GPU: Sapphire R9 380X MOBO: Gigabyte 970A-DS3P RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB PSU: XFX XTR 550W CASE: Zalman Z11 Plus SSD: Samsung 840 Evo

What's so bad about it exactly?

the prebuilt is actually not as bad as i expected.

that said, the custom one looks like a nice all-rounder.

Is the R7-260X a good card? Or would the 950 be better?

Get rid of the Z97 that's a locked CPU.

There's no point he's literally saving like £1

A 950 would be better since it's a gimped 960

What's so bad about it exactly?

that i5 and a mid tier GPU is a bad idea and that Mobo is unnecessary

Aren't there new Skylake i3s and i5s here/on the way?

Wait for those.

It's not worth it and it just means more expensive motherboards for a more expensive build

But the i5 will probably last a lot longer than the GPU. Its one of the cheapest ones out of the mobo in the price range

and its a lower wattage than the amd part if i recall correctly.

that i5 and a mid tier GPU is a bad idea and that Mobo is unnecessary

before mentioned he'd be saving £1 going for H97, and why is that a bad idea?

  1. get a b85 or an h97 board instead as you have a locked cpu

if you can afford the r9 280 or r9 285 i would get one of those instead of the 950. the 950 is still a great card and will probably run cooler than the ones i've mentioned, but the amd cards would be more powerful

i would get a fractal or corsair case instead. i think their build quality is better

i would opt for a fully or semi modular bronze psu instead

While only having 2 RAM slots, 2 Sata 3 ports, no USB 3, minimal fan support so I wouldn't get it to save money unless on a very tight budget

get this then:

the gpu will be voltage locked though...

edit:

it's not worth getting the 950 when you can spend 10-20 pounds more and get a way better card
