As always, @STRMfrmXMN, because even if he can't help, he posts something humorous and gets your topic a little publicity. Can I somehow recommend him for an award or something? Anyways, Story time. I got a Samsung 850 EVO as recommended by you guys. It came today, and I set about installing windows. The installer died at about 75% through the second step,, and so I decided to stop the installation and reinstall the bootable media to the USB, as this had fixed the problem in the past. I stopped the install, but it froze. I waited and waited, about two hours, but the installer never actually stopped, just froze. I couldn't click anything. So I turned off the computer via power loss, the same thing that caused all my troubles with my ADATA SP600. I booted it, expecting to find my EVO in RAW format, but it wasn't, thank god(or gods or spirits or science or whatever you believe in- I mostly meant it as a figure of speech). However, when I try to install windows, I get this error: "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu. " healpmepleasaeithinkimgonnadieifidontgetmyfirstbuildworkingiamsecondsawayfrompartingitoutonebay

Just a guy who peaked at building back in the days of the GTX 980. If you see me here, assume i have technical knowledge akin to a committed hobbyist builder back then. If something's changed, you'll need to tell me(nicely plz). I'm probably asking for help with the modern build scene since I have no clue what's going on.

Make sure you have AHCI enabled in the BIOS. Also clear CMOS.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

I would check in your BIOS to make sure that you are using AHCI on your SATA ports. If that is set, check your SATA connections to make sure they are in all the way on both the motherboard and the SSD. If you still have a problem, the SSD might be stuck in write mode. At that point you will need to just let the computer sit in idle in the BIOS for 5 to 10 min. Power off the computer, power it back on and try to install windows again.

Edit: make sure to delete the partitions windows installed by selecting custom setup during the install before trying to install windows again.

Introduced my wife to Skyrim. Haven’t had a sandwich in weeks.

I have no OS, all I can do is custom. No upgrade.

done and done. No dif.

You mentioned earlier flashing firmware, might that be worthwhile? How would I do it?

Done. Still broken...

Some SSDs have a firmware flashing software on their site. You use some sort of Linux bootable USB maker and put the software on there to make it bootable. It'll look rudimentary at best (the software) but it helps update firmware.

1. I can plug it in externally to a Windows device

2. I got it to work by leaving it in BIOS for about half an hour first, but when I restarted to complete the Windows install, Windows install failed and asked for drivers, because apparently all the drivers magically disappeared.

EDIT: what I was asking here is where I can find the drivers. the website doesn't seem to have them...
