Overclocking a fx-6300

Go to solution Solved by KneesWeak,

Now i know the hyper 212 evo is good, but thats just witchcraft.

lol, I'd try coretemp, and you can probably go for 4 on stock voltages, the max turbo is 4.1 so 3.8 is hardly an oc.  I only had to raise my voltage to get to 4.5 by about .125, so if your using a normal board, 1.425 is around the area you might need to get to 4.4-4.6.  A 6300 oc's pretty good so I'd just work my way up from the highest stable oc on stock voltage and then steadily raise the voltage.

Hey guys.

I gave my sister a computer for her birthday in late May. Its a nice little build inside a windowed 300r with a fx-6300 and a 660Ti. At the time, I had overclocked her cpu to 3.8 from 3.5 without touching the voltage. A very conservative overclock, i know.

Recently, shes been complaining that its not fast enough so I want to overclock it higher.

The problem is that i dont want to apply more voltage because i have no idea what the cpu temp is. HW monitor generally tells me its 18 degrees or so. Now i know the hyper 212 evo is good, but thats just witchcraft. Is there any reliable temp monitoring software that i can use other than HW monitor? Thats pretty much all i need and i can take care of the rest from there.

No monitoring software can get past AMD's terrible temperature sensors. HWMonitor is actually quite good. What are the rest of her specs? And what is she doing that it's not "fast enough"?

I use core temp, http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/ and she would probably benefit from an ssd more then an overclock

Fx-6300

Hyper 212 Evo

Asus M5A97r2

Corsair Vengeance 2x4 gb @1600

EVGA 660Ti

Samsung 840 Pro 128gb

Seagate Barracuda 1tb

Corsair cx600m

Corsair 300r

She games a bit and the game she plays is terribly cpu optimized (its Tera online, if you're curious), so to get higher frames, i found the best way is to increase clock speeds. At least thats what i did with my cousins phenom II (i got a good 10 or so frames).

Tera requires a lot of tinkering, due to the terrible optimization, but I'm trying anything that might help.

I know how to overclock. XD

Its just that not knowing the temps is sort of terrifying. I'll look i to core temp. Thanks you sirs.

HWMonitor and CoreTemp are extremely similar when it comes to monitoring temperatures.
