So I'm very new to computing i built my first computer this summer.

But I've now changed to processor to and Intel 4790k upgrading from a 4690 just in time for uni.

And I'm looking to start overclocking.

Spec are

Msi gaming 5 motherboard

4790k CPU

Be quiet 500w pus bronze

Be quiet dark rock pro 3 CPU cooler

Msi gtx 970

850 evo 250gb Ssd

Green 1tb hard drive

Just wondering if this system is good for overclocking and if the cooling will be okay to overclock

The whole thing is in a h440 case with the preinstalled fans

The power supply is barely sufficient for small overclocks. Even though the 970 isn't very power hungry, overclocking (and especially overvolting) increases power draw very quickly. I also wouldn't necessarily trust an overclocked system of that magnitude to a bronze rated power supply (not that the rating itself has anything to do with it, but because it generally indicates meh quality). So before you do anything I'd return that (if possible) and get an evga supernova g2 650w. Then you can attempt overclocking. Never go over 1.35 volts on the cpu and bare in mind that there are no guarantees of being able to overclock at all.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

The base clock of a 4790k is 4GHz, with a turbo boost of 4.4GHz.

This system shouldn't be too bad for overclocking.

Just a few things to remember:

* Turn up the clock speed slightly, little by little.

* Everytime you go up by 0.2 or 0.3GHz, it is good to run a stress test to check that it is fully stable.

* Remember to TURN OFF turbo mode, and manually select the required frequency.

* I'm not sure about your motherboard, but my motherboard has an auto feature for the voltages, so, if your motherboard has the feature, just select auto and don't worry about what it is set to.

* When you have reached a successful and cool clock speed, it is recommended to run a stress test over and over, to be absolutely positive about stability. Running different tests from different companies is always recommended also to test varied conditions.

I hope this helps, and I hope everything goes to plan!
