Old ssd.

Hi! Im planning on building my first custom pc, because my other pc cant handle what i want to do with it. I have an old laptop that still boots, and it has an SSD in it. To save some money, I was wondering if I could format the drive and put it in my new computer as a boot drive? Btw, the laptop is from somewhere around 2008. Sure you can use it but something's off here. Did 200GB SSDs even exist back in 2008? If it's aftermarket, how recent exactly is it?
