800$ gaming laptop?

Go to solution Solved by Opeth747,

Look for a used Lenovo y50. This is the best you're going to get. Warranty until March 16, too.

Ive got a budget of 800$ and wondering whats the best laptop i can buy for that. Mainly for gaming but cant build a desktop as im constantly on the move.

Screen:15-17inch

$800 US?

I have heard (and please correct me if I'm wrong, someone, I have this question, too!) that it's not possible to get a good gaming laptop without shelling out over a grand.
So, I'd definitely like to know if this is wrong.

Expect to be playing on medium-low settings on an $800 gaming computer. Some of the AMD APU's can play some games.

No. The Lenovo y50 is much better.

Ya the Y50 you linked is far and away a better buy because of the 860m being a decent step up over the 850/950m

well mostly for cs go and dota 2. its not demanding right?

Look for a Y50 - very good laptops and have an 860m - quite a bit better than the 950m since it uses GDDR5 as opposed to DDR3 on the 950m - GPU is the most important thing you should be looking at - not the CPU.

the cpu speed should not be ignored especially since a lot of newer releases are pushing cpu's harder than they might of in the past. I would take the HQ chip over the U chip anyday for mobile gaming for the 2 extra real cores.

any i7 will be plenty really - even the i5 mobiles since they are just about right for the mobile GPUs

Yeah, they're basically same. It clocked little higher.

U series i7's are often a waste because the cooling solutions they are most often pared with give them no real benefit over their i5 U series equivalents. the HQ chip is a different class of chip all together and as such is most often paired with much more robust cooling.
