Wordpress Customization and Theming

Hey All,

 

I personally have some Web Design and Development experience under my belt - enough to get myself into trouble. What I do not have, is specific Wordpress knowledge - specifically theming. 

 

My Fiance wants to start a blog/site, and will want to design and build her own theme (or at least modify an existing theme). I want to encourage her in this endeavor by buying some learning materials on wordpress design. 

 

Any recommendations? Will a book on CSS be a good start, or are there wordpress-specific materials available and recommended?

Wordpress themes are all just usual html, css and js with, I guess, some php snippets, and when you know all of those the only thing you really need is to read Wordpress docs about how to adapt your code to template for Wordpress (https://codex.wordpress.org/Theme_Development).
