Try re-installing windows with sp1 included. You can get the iso online legit for free here:

export PS1='\[\033[1;30m\]┌╼ \[\033[1;32m\]\u@\h\[\033[1;30m\] ╾╼ \[\033[0;34m\]\w\[\033[0;36m\]\n\[\033[1;30m\]└╼ \[\033[1;37m\]'

I've had issues with installing Service Packs before. I can suggest two things:

1) Keep trying. Usually, it'll work one time, but not always.

2) Go to Microsoft's website, download the Windows 7 SP1 ISO (disc image) and re-install Windows with that as it has SP1 pre-installed. Just use the same key again to keep your Windows genuine.

If you can get into Windows, then you can safely back everything up before installing updates.

Either use Windows' own backup service or just copy your "C:\Users" and "C:\ProgramData" folders. You'll need to reinstall drivers etc but if you backup those two folders and then copy them both back across, you'll hardly notice a difference with your computer.

That's assuming that you have hidden files shown, just so you know.

If it's available from the Microsoft website, yes. That could well work. Good luck! I've had a not-working computer for 2-3 days due to driver issues and such. Finally got everything working again last night!

EDIT: It seems that the SP1 download includes Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 x86 and x64 versions.
