Mobile GPU Problem

Go to solution Solved by XthHaseo,

Yeah I have the CLEVO P150EM / SAGER NP9150 (Early 2012) 15.6-inch and I just found a site that sells everything for all laptops on Eurocom finally. The GTX 970M is an available upgrade for my specific computer so I think I've found it. Thank you for your input though Emanuel_M, no need to be nasty, my reply was for the others that replied here saying that usually GPUs are soldered on, and yes in most cases they are, but gaming laptops are a different thing entirely.

Hey guys, I have a real problem that I'd like to be able to resolve. I'm assuming my current GPU is partially burnt out because it still functions ok, I just get artifacts every time I try to play a graphic intensive game. I've thoroughly troubleshot it and to no avail unfortunately. I've done graphics drivers, re-seated and re-pasted multiple times but no luck. So I was wondering if there were any places I could order a mobile gpu from.

Not likely. Most mGPUs are soldered to the motherboard. Changing the GPU means changing the motherboard in most cases. Have youtried downclocking if you can?

it depends on your GPU slot on the laptop. For a temp fix you can do a reflow. Find your GPU socket, the Power consumption, to make sure it will work with you laptop. Some good sites. eBay.com

Amazon.com

I have a Clevo based Sager Notebook with the 7970M. I stated that I re-seated it multiple times in this post so it is removable. Gaming laptops are pretty modular and just about as upgrade-able as desktops now a days. I'm currently looking for a GTX 700 or 900 series mobile GPU and those tend to require much less power than AMD GPUs so power requirements aren't an issue.

the thing is is it compatible? Becuase there are some different GPU slots. And people here assume to much becuase it is a laptop. If you want help b more specific with the laptop model name. Like fucking saying, the TV I chose was a 70inch with led display.

but there were some fourms on other sites, saying the GPU needs like some special bios but that might only be with AMD cards. Good luck, and happy gaming.

Try overheating the chip to resoider the chip check the chip for and cracks or discoloration my r9 285 had problems with its heatsink not making proper contact with the gpu so it lost contact with the board causing it to freak out with it looking like static on a tv but i flow my gpu again to get it working.

Yes, they have a vbios and Prema mod makes a custom bios for clevo/sager notebooks as well as the custom vbios for the 970m

I'll probably end up doing this soon for the time being seeing as I won't have enough saved up for a 970m within the next couple of months. I'm just unsure if I want to do a reflow with my heat gun or my toaster oven lol. It's funny how I kind of solved my own post. I guess I just needed to wait until Eurocom started selling MXM 3.0b GPUs as upgrades for gaming laptops because when I checked their site about a year ago they didn't do that. Though now my 7970M doesn't work at all. Every time I install the driver for it, it BSOD's and if it tries to boot up with the driver installed, it won't boot. It either gets stuck on the Windows Logo before booting up or it eventually BSODs with 0x124 or something similar like 0x101 saying the system stopped to prevent damage being caused to my PC..
