CPU running too slowly?

cooky560

So I lowered the voltages on i7 4790k to 1.15v in search of lower temps in my small case, and yesterday this worked pretty well, lowering the temps and keeping the cpu at 4400mhz during stress testing.

I boot up today and the cpu is unable to get above 4397.45mhz, have I damaged the cpu?

Bios setting used:

vCore [Auto] -> 1.153v

no but it used to hit that exactly at the lower v setting, now it its this slightly lower number?

I am no overclocking guru, but are you not supposed to disable boost and just set it to a speed. Did you not stress test it for hours ?

boost is still enabled, I don't think I'm making myself clear

the cpu is running at a stock clock speed, I lowered the voltages to cool it down. I found a stable setting at 1.15v which gave me 4.4ghz stable in prime95 (stock + turbo boost)

today I run the same test and it only turbos to 4.397 (system bus appears to be running at 99.94)

4.397 is 3 MHZ SLOWER overclocking and undervolting isnt perfect, but 3 mhz aint gonna make any difference

Its normal.

3MHz won't make a difference, your being over dramatic

Raise the base frequency if it really bothers you, Mine is running some 5.094 or something

Set BCLK for 100MHz and disable spread spectrum.

That should sort it out.

with regards to overclocking if I ever choose to, I find to keep the temps under 74 I need to keep the volts under 1.18, can I get upto 4.6 reliably on that sort of voltage?

Thanks to everyone for their input so far!
