I see this asked a lot, and the answers differ each time and usually comes down to the individual.
I have two MSI 970's and I'm really not getting the performance from them that I wanted, and honestly they're kind of a pain in the ass at times...
Would I be better off to sell them and buy a 980 ti?
The msi's only have one displayport connector which sucks, and I get like 40fps on witcher 3 at 1440..

I know it wouldn't be a huge upgrade in performance, but it'd be easier to deal with, plus the option to add a second later..

I'll be running all my games on a 144hz 1440p monitor.

Higher frame rate over higher resolution.

I'd say go for the 980ti.

I plan on selling off my 970 down the road and getting a 980ti for when I go for 1440p.

I'm pretty sure I really overestimated 970 sli, and thought they'd beat the 980 ti..
One of the cards just can't handle hardly any overclocks, damn you lottery lol
Plus the extra vram will be nice.

Yeah, definitely. Sli setups are almost never worth it and the 980ti is almost as good as a titan x.

SLI 970s actually outpace a single Ti in a good number of cases. The Ti wins out by a ton in cases where SLI is not supported obviously. Study your benchmarks and make sure that you are coming out on top for most of the games you play.

I have 980 Ti's in SLI and they are great.

The benchmarks I've seen shows them going neck and neck..
970s pull a couple more frames, then ti gets more on another..
I'd be ok with getting equal performance and not having to deal with sli issues, but I don't want to lose performance

SLI is a pain in the ass, I have gsync monitor so that helps with the microstutter....

But I'm having issues where one runs at a way lower voltage and can't handle even a minute overclock...

my results- http://www.3dmark.com/fs/5865786

vs a random guy on google with nearly identical setup

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/4331388

I should be scoring more than 2,000 points extra when going against a single 970
