CPU Overheating?

Go to solution Solved by kameshss,

I'm not saying I want it to run near 100C normally, I'm just asking if this is a precaution my CPU has.

The cooler I have is an Asetek 550LC 120mm Liquid Cooling CPU Cooler - Extreme Cooling Performance (Single Standard 120MM Fan)

My Case fan is a Enermax TB Silence UCTB14 140mm Performance Cooling with Low Noise Profile Fan

Normally it would turn off if it were going to hit near 100 degree.

Hey guys, I purchased a new PC with an i7 5930K six-core @3.5ghz (overclocked to 4.2).

If my processor were to hit 100C, would it turn itself off or would it just die? Back in the old days, I remember CPUs just dying if they overheated but someone recently told me that they're programmed to shut off if they reach too high of a temp.

Yeah that's not a safe temp, what CPU cooler do you use? It might be seated incorrectly or thermal paste applied in a wrong way

if your thermal monitor is on, is will downclock. don't let it get that hot. what kind of cooler do you have?

It would turn itself off at 96c. Doesn't mean it's a good idea to let it go that high. Stay below 80 if at all possible.

Hmm. Well redo your thermal paste and reseat the cooler. Failing that, upgrade the heatsink to something more powerful or consider watercooling it. The stock one is okay for general PC users, but overclocking isn't it's specialty.
