I'm upgrading an old computer

So I've a old desktop, that wanted to upgrade but a need some advices to do it.

The basics.

Motherboard: Asus P5GC-MX/1333

CPU: Intel E7200 2.53Ghz running @3.05Ghz
RAM: 3GB DDR2
GPU: Nvidia 8500GT 1GB
PSU: Lcpower 420w

My real question here is can I upgrade to a Nvidia 660ti, and the power supply to a 620w seasonic, until I buy a new motherboard, cpu and ram.

I know the gpu will be bottlenecked, and is that gpu enough for photo editing  (photoshop mainly) and some games (not ultra setting but all in the market right now)

My honest opinion? Save up $600-$800 and start over. Maybe a little less If you go used like a GTX 680 and i5-2500k with Z77 mobo

Yes you can that will work but as you said it will bottleneck like crazy but it will work fine till you upgrade.

Depends on how prices vary per country - 'Murica is easy

My thoughts? Get a decent PSU first then a GPU - the CPU can wait a bit and then do CPU+RAM+MOBO in one go and an SSD preferably.

Trying to avoid buying on the internet, but here I got some reasonable prices.

 

 

Yup I thought about doing that PSU+GPU and latter when I can the CPU+RAM+MOBO.

But for my needs will the GTX 660 Ti be enough or shall I get the 680 or one of the new ones 950 or 960?

 

And for the PSU, is this one a good choise, Seasonic S12II 620W 80PLUS Bronze ( http://www.seasonicusa.com/S12II-Bronze.htm ) ?

That is just way to old...

 

1. Get a better CPU

2. DDR3 ram or if you have much money DDr4

3. Get a GPU that is nice match for the new CPU but that old one can be used as placeholder...

I think I'll Buy a new PSU and GPU then I'll buy new and recent MOBO+RAM+CPU
