i have the non-usb 3.1 version of the sabertooth Z97 mark1 and i like it a lot.

its in no way a cheap board, and neither is it especially good looking (kinda got the noctua colors going on there, build idea?)

what i like about it is that it provides the features i want, in a package thats not overly styled, but still has some "teeth" to it.

the different connectors on the board are placed in a logical way and its overall a nice build experience, along with some actually decent driver disks.

--

that said, it *has* a price premium over other boards, like the Z97-A, or for example the MSI Z97 krait.

because haswell (technically haswell refresh) is still a valid platform, and quite a bit cheaper than skylake (y'know DDR4 and new and stuff)

In newegg ddr4 is only like $10 more for 8gb variants. Also, getting a new cpu now would make him less tempted to upgrade a year earlier or so. The Sabertooth z97 motherboard he is deciding on as well is more expensive than some of the z170 motherboards out there (albeit by $10 or so).

Just wondering, why upgrade to haswell when skylake just came out?

Ok off topic but I love your profile picture, I thought your picture was loading :P

the sabertooth is however very much an expensive z97 board. EDIT: and sometimes those $20 make a difference.
