Hey guys,

Put together this parts list:

http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/jFMcnQ

(Prices are in Australian Dollar!)

Looking for tips on what to change and where I could save some more money without compromising on performance and without using dodgy parts.

I am pretty bad when building more of a budget PC so looking for any help :)

Purely a workstation PC, not for gaming at all.

Main software being used is Revit.

My Rigs:

Gaming/CAD/Rendering Rig

What is the purpose of the Workstation?

If budget, look into used parts. Workstation grade cpu last very long time

EVGA SR-2 / 2x Intel Xeon X5675 4.4Ghz OC / 24GB EEC 1800Mhz OC/ AMD RX570 / Enermax Evoliution 1050W / Main RAID 0: 2x256GB 840EVO SSD / BackUp(1) Raid 5: 3x2TB WD HDD / BackUp(2) 8x2TB / Dell U2412M / Dell U2312HM

Its to be used for Architectural software, like Revit.

You don't need workstation for that :) Better by a 6 core and it will help you with rendering. Xeons past 1366 socket are useless apart the core count.

Theyre essentially an i7 without the iGPU which is great for this software. The most of the rendering will be done online through Revits Cloud Rendering, hence just a basic GPU to do low/medium renders at a faster rate to check basic details of things.

Never seen an autodesk product get better just to not having igpu :D I mainly work with Maya/3dsmax and other vfx software, but can imagine that it will be a very low quality rendering engine. I would still go with something like 4690K and overclock it a little bit. It will outperform the xeon for less price. The only reason I have xeons is you can put multiple of them on one board and with my board overclokc them.

I dont think you understand what I am saying. That Xeon Processor is essentially an i7-4770 but without a GPU and is only about $20 more expensive than an i5-4690K. It will outperform the i5 and would be a much better choice for the tasks being performed on the PC considering the very marginal price difference :/

EDIT: Also if going with the unlocked CPU, I would have to get a more expensive motherboard to allow for overclocking, and thus also probably have to buy an aftermarket cooler to cool the OC.

Looks good. If budget permits, you might consider a larger ssd.

Yeah is always an option, The person who i'll be building it for though, I doubt she will need a very large boot drive.

Of course she needs a larger ssd. The data drive is going to be pretty slow. Keeping active projects on the ssd should significantly improve productivity.
