CCleaner

Go to solution Solved by Naeaes,
The 'recent documents' refers to the globally maintained (by windows itself) recent files list. It consists of actual .lnk files and those are what CCleaner deletes if the option is enabled. So as DimasRMDO noted, only the .lnk files are removed, not the actual files that they point to.

MSOffice and other softwares also maintain their own lists internally. No .lnk files but something similar-ish, likely a .dll -file in their %appdata% folders. I don't have MSOffice installed myself so I can't test, but there's likely something to untick in the 'applications' list in CCleaner. If there's nothing relating To MSOffice in 'applications' you can also manually find the correct folder in %appdata% and add that in the 'Exclude' list in the CCleaner options.

So, I recently started using CCleaner again since I noticed a large decrease in disk storage. It did its job and cleaned up 15GBs. However, even after disabling settings including: "recent documents", “seesion (firefox)” and more, they were just ignored. So my question is this, does unchecking these options on CCleaner free do anything? Or am I disabling the wrong settings since now all my recent documents on MSoffice, file explorer are gone, and all active logings on firefox have logged out. Any ideas?

Only the "Recently" opened list is gone, not the actual files....

Also what is the "More"?

So what do I need to uncheck to keep my recently opened files' list and active logins??

Uncheck "Recent Documents" to keep your recent files list in Microsoft Office.

The actual file is still there, but because there's one in the recent files list, it's easier to access.

Deleting recent files list doesn't delete the actual files, but you need to find the original files.
