Reset a surface pro 3

Hi all,

I got a new surface pro 3 the other day - absolutely loving it, but I've been having some problems with programs not uninstalling properly. It gives me an error, and won't uninstall fully. It doesn't show up in the all apps menu, but when I try to reinstall, which normally fixes the problem, it says it's already installed! Help! Here comes my next problem - I figure a wipe of all the devices data would fix it, but when I go to reset, it asks me to insert installation media! It's a laptop of course, and I don't have a copy of Windows handy, let alone a key to activate said install media... Suggestions?

Is the Surface running Windows 10?

Becuase if it is, them you can use another computer to create the Windows media on a disk or a USB driver.

You just create the media with the Windows Media Creattion tool.

You need to make recovery media

 

however there is a built in recovery system, you could try that  - its a windows refresh

Bought: Sept 3rd 2014

WiFi Stopped Working: Sept 27th 2014

Overheating Issues (would not boot): 2 weeks after

Kick stand no longer strong enough to support SP3: 3 months later

 

 

And the whole time, Microsoft refused to replace it, even under warranty and when it was a documented issue. Microsoft Support is a joke and I'm never buying a Surface or Windows Phone device again in my life.

 

Honestly my biggest spending regret ever. Coming from the guy typing this away on a $1300 Macbook 12inch 2015.

Strange, not heard of many issues, I have friends with them that swear by them, still a shitty experience which is a shame - dont understand the stand issue, we had one in store that was hammered by customers and no issues after standing around since before launch (its still there now as is the SP2 which is still there haha)

If you google around, the WiFi and Heat issues are super common, especially on the i7 versions. There is a 200+ page thread on the Surface forums about it.

Yes, it is running W10. Do i need to buy a new copy of windows to do that? Or does it carry the license over if i reset through windows?

No need for a new licens. You are just using the new media to repair the old installation, so it will keep the licens intact.
