Corsair CX750M ticking/buzzing noise

Since i got my Corsair CX750M 6 months ago, it has had this weird noise. Until yesterday, i didn't know it was the power supply, but i do now. I removed the power from the case fans, and stopped all the other. I dont wanna try stopping the PSU fan, as i can only fit a screwdriver in the hole, and it touches something behind the fan instantly. I think it might be the fan, but I'm not sure. Without that noise its actually as quiet as Linus wants, except for the HDD at times. Also, at times when I'm gaming, i can hear that noise over my headset.

Its not overload, as the PC was turning off as i recorded, and i hadn't used the pc until then, today.

Should i return it, or do you have any tips on what I can do? I also tried to plug it in to its own outlet, but that didn't help.

Thanks

hmm could be bearings in the fan but you would have to void your warranty  doing that, just return it

I would return it if you can... CX power supplies are not made for gaming rigs. My system happens to make a buzzing noise when under load, but that's somewhat normal. Nothing you can really do.

I had the same noise with my CX500, I pulled it out, Realised i hadn't pulled the sticker off the logo on the top where the fan is, Then it had continued. But i found that spraying compressed air into it, (Maybe clearing out any little bits of plastic or so caught in it) Could push out any small bits caught, Not saying it works, but it fixed it for me.

The logo on mine just lot a lot prettier xD I'll try blowing into it when i have some compressed air. Thanks for the tip. If that doesn't work I'll return it :P

Can you recommend a maybe more efficient one, for gaming rigs? Around 750w (if the XFX R9 280x 3g black actually needs that) I'll return it if blowing air in it doesn't work, but i probably cant get my money back, unless i return it 3 times with errors.

  • 1 year later...

when my PSU (CX750M) makes the buzzing nose it also distorts the image on the VGA screens slightly so i think the buzzing may effect the PSU DC output dont know if this could effect the life of my components.

it only dose it when i draw more than 200w
