What motherboard should I get?

I have tried overclocking with my MSI Z87M-G43 and its quit simply impossible.

At Christmas time I will be upgrading my motherboard to something that I can overclock with.

If you had £160/185Euros/$250 what motherboard would you buy and why?

Are you sure it isn't your chip that is a bad overclocker?

Its most likely your chip. But if you need to upgrade, the G45 over clocks extremely well. I can get my chip to 4.6 pretty easily. (Even though it requires 1.35 volts.)

I don't see any need to get a better board than that. You'll get the same performance out of practically anything.

If anything try to exchange your chip or something...

My board doesn't have LLC/vDroop settings, making overclocking always unstable, especially for 24 hour stress tests

Haswell doesn't need any vdroop setting changes, so you most likely won't see a difference.

But seeing as your chip is super picky, it might...

I've read it in many forum posts and other websites. I found this review of haswell, which basically shows you everything that changed. http://www.overclockers.com/intel-i7-4770k-haswell-cpu-review

He says that, unlike in previous generations where the voltage would go down when out under load, if anything it actually goes up with haswell.

This doesn't explain why I am failing 4GHz with like 1.19V

You just got extremely unlucky with your cpu.  I just don't think you will see that much, if any improvement with a new motherboard.

These guys seem to have overclocked their 4770k pretty nicely with your board.  http://www.hardwareheaven.com/reviews/1791/pg8/msi-z87-g43-motherboard-review-overclocking.html

There's hardly any difference between any of the boards.

I have a 4670k

They're both haswell...

I also have a 4670k and I get good OC's on my G45, so considering my board was achieving .1 Ghz higher than your board,  There is practically no difference.  Your motherboard (unless it's just bad) has nothing to do with your horrible overclocks.  It's your cpu, you lost the silicon lottery.

What program are you using to stress test then?

Intel extreme tuning utility, and or aida64.  IF I stress test i use those, normally I just open a game and play, if it freezes I bump it up.   I have a pretty decent cpu though.  I'm at 4.2 with 1.1v, and it's been pretty much stable for 5+ hours while in-game.  Which is all would ever need.

Can you link me to a Haswell overclocking guide? I will be willing to follow to the letter as long as I dont have to go past 1.25V!

I have tried this twice and I cannot even get past the first step without crashing/locking!

Dude, you have a bad chip. You can't do anything about it.
