Hello.

My girlfriend and I recently moved into a bigger apartment, which mean I had to compress my whole old apartment, which was more or less a big nerd cave, into my new "office".

As many of you probably know, creatures such as females, prefer a "visitor-friendly" house, so we made a agreement (she agreed, i just nodded) about a zero tolerance rule about cables, hardware and other tech stuff laying around.

This forced me buy a small media center PC for the television, which works great for online streaming and such.

Sadly, this is very inefficient for watching movies netflix currently dosen't support *wink* *wink* since it only has 128gb SSD.

But because i love tech projects, it's enough to convince me getting a streaming server.

So im building a small streaming server which will also work as a small file storage, which will contain programming projects, family pictures etc.

I know how to do the setup, but i know close to nothing about server hardware, which is why i seek a little help from you guys :-)

Here is my requirements:

Able to stream 1080p video, while also being able to act as small file stor small 128gb ssd simultaneously.

low power cost

somewhat silent

gigabit ethernet.

Thanks in advance.
Sorry for any major typos, this is written on my OPO at lunch.

SNIP

As long as you are not transcoding, pretty much ANY pc can handle file storage, and movie streaming over LAN

You could just shove some drives in your media centre pc (or is it like a Nuc type device?)

Honestly i would go for something like my file server in my signature, with a pentium and some hard drives in raid for redundancy
