Hi, the new motherboard I im considering to buy (Gigabyte GA-Z170XP-SLI ATX Motherboard) says this:

1 x PCI Express 3.0 x16 slot, running at x16 (PCIEX16)

1 x PCI Express 3.0 x16 slot, running at x8 (PCIEX8)

1 x PCI Express 3.0 x16 slot, running at x4 (PCIEX4)

2 x PCI Express 3.0 x1 slots

2 x PCI slots

What does the running at x8 or x4 mean?

What does the running at x8 or x4 mean?

Runs 8 or 4 lanes not 16, minimum for SLI is 8 lanes, so you can do 2 way SLI, Xfire doesn't care. If you aren't building a multi GPU setup just ignore it

What does the running at x8 or x4 mean?

It means it's actually an x8 or x4 slot. They just fitted an x16-sized plastic socket on it. As far as the computer is concerned it's an x8/x4 slot.
