Overclocking an APU?

I was wondering something. I have a not-so-fast laptop that I play games on. Well today I decided I got sick and tired of playing these games with graphics on low. I turned up the graphics to high. My fps went from 31 to 18, barely playable. I have an AMD processor and graphics card. I do know about OverDrive but it doesn't seem to work for me. My default core run is 1600mhz to 2400mhz, I used OverDrive and boosted it to 2700mhz. Went back into the game, no change. I boosted it to 2900mhz. Went back into the game, no change. How come nothing is happening when I am clocking it to higher speeds? Is this changing the processor speed, graphic card speed, or both? Is there another software program you suggest?

By the way the game I am testing this on is World of Tanks.

Specs needed to know:

Processor:

AMD A8: 3520m APU

Graphics card:

AMD HD Radeon 6620G

Are the clocks even being applied? And as @CoolBeans stated, laptop coolers aren't geared towards overclocking. They already run hot at stock.

Edited for a weird typo.

The fan can't be overclocked. If you go past its specs(if you can "overclock" it), you risk destroying the motor. Using CPU-Z, does the CPU run at the speed you intend to run it at?

Well even though turbo core is suppose to run at 2400mhz, it seems to only use 1600mhz while doing resource intensive games. I have asked AMD about this and they said Turbo Core is used for something else which I forgot the response to.

I think I might know what's going on, the CPU normally operates at 1.6Ghz and only boosts up to 2.6Ghz when one core is being utilized and somewhere between 1.6 and 2.6 (probably 2.2) when only 2 cores are being utilized, World of Tanks is probably using 3 or 4 cores and that's why the CPU is running at 1.6Ghz, try to boost the base clock from 1.6 to 1.8Ghz.

Also try to locate the GPU clock and raise that slightly.

@Assassin. Overclocking a laptop is not a good idea anyways. Even if it can be achieved.

You may laugh now... but oh, in 2015 he will no longer be a nut for owning a 990

xD how do you explain the 8 way sli?

Console optimisations and how they will effect you | The difference between AMD cores and Intel cores | Memory Bus size and how it effects your VRAM usage |
How much vram do you actually need? | APUs and the future of processing | Projects: SO - here

Duh... Slick invents timetravel to go back in time 4 minutes before Linus fires him so he can quit and keep his dignity but stumbles into an alternate dimension where the ghost of Morgan Webb (dang she's getting old, I remember when she was the hottest chick into computers around the can it run crysis days... Now that I think about I need to remind myself to dvr the G4 Chuck Norris marathon tonight...) gives him the ultimate computer knowledge and know how to build his own system with a soldering iron and some raw materials but he burns himself and he curses so loud that he awakens coolbeans from cryo-sleep to go back in time to teach us anchient folks in the year 2013 about the cool technology that slick forgot in 2015 and Tim cook found it patented it and pretended to innovate...

try to wrap your head around that and it makes perfect sense...

1 in bajillions time AMD TurboCore on laptop proc will turbo itself. Your best bet is to use K10Stat and overclock it. Don't forget to monitor the temperatures.

use setfsb, it can set the bus speed on netbooks and notebooks, but you can't change the voltage
