Due to me migrating my current built into a new case (Cooler Master MasterCase Pro 5) and pairing that with a Noctua NH-D15, I thought the timing might be right for a new fan controlling solution.

I love my NZXT Grid+, but there are a couple of things about it that I'm not a fan of:

  1. No PWM fan headers
  2. No individual fan controlling
  3. Fan speeds are done in 5% increments, with temperature targets ramping the speed of the fans up rather than a steady increase

I've known about the Corsair Link Commander Mini for a little while now, and whilst more expensive than the Grid+, it does look like a fairly compelling product. It has PWM headers, individual fan control (of which I will be using to feed more air to my graphics card without having to increase the speed of my exhaust fan), and the Corsair Link software looks cool as well.

So, for anyone who owns/has used this product, would you care to share you experiences and enlighten me?

Before anyone recommends a different kind of solution (i.e. not an internal fan controller), let me point out a couple of things:

  • I don't like the look of external fan controllers, I think they ruin the aesthetics of a case
  • I tried using the SpeedFan software but fucking hated, should push come shove, I could probably try getting acquainted with it again (I am using a different motherboard WITH PWM headers since the last time I used it)
  • I would use the ASUS AI Suite (or whatever the hell it's called), but I use an MSI Motherboard, so that's a no-go (at least that's the impression I get)

As a side note, does anyone know if using PWM fans with 3-pin headers via an adapter will damage them in the long run?

Thanks for the help.

For the fans running PWM fans via 3 pin or DC voltage control is not a problem for most, some however can have more audible noises such as ticking. On the MSI boards they do have their version of fan control through MSI Command Center.

Ah, I see. Thanks for the help. I've got the fan on my CM TX3 EVO (which is PWM) connected to my Grid+ which ramps up the speed of all fans based on CPU temps.

I'll take a look at MSI Command Centre.
