Hello,

I need to replace my motherboard, the MSI Z87-GD65. Part of mine is broken and I just want to get the same thing, but I've been hard pressed to find new ones. Newegg is out of stock, etc. I was wondering if anyone knows of a trustworthy place to find one (only two leads I've looked in to are a seller on Amazon known as electronics2015 and pcwarehouseoutlet.com), or if I have to get a different motherboard, since it's the same chipset etc if it's an MSI motherboard as well, will I have to fuck with anything software wise? Issues with BIOS or OS etc? I don't want to make any drastic changes, did a clean installation not too long ago and reinstalling all my programs has been hell.

Thank you

Just find a cheap Z97 like the MSI PC MATE or a MSI B85 PC MATE only thing you may have to do is deactivate OS and reinstall

I saw you man. I was thinking, what if I got the Z87-G45? Is there that much of a difference and would I have to fuck with the BIOS/OS?

I mean, I accept that I'll have to work out some kinks... but basically, what would be a wise choice to avoid a fresh OS install? If possible. I'm willing to do whatever. I just want what's easiest and will work.

I have switched motherboard completely, new brand, new chipset, new for factor(if that even matters) and i had no errors with plugging it all in and booting up os right away. You will need to install/update motherboard drivers

Ive heard people recommend uninstalling current motherboard drivers then doing switch and after install new drivers. I didnt do that with mine but probably better in the end to do it.

How do I find/uninstall MSI mobo drivers and install new mobo drivers? Do mobo drivers usually come in a CD? What did you do as opposed to what people recommend?

You can find drivers in device manager i believe? Just look for anything thats labeled MSi blah blah blah(might want to google this before attempt as i have not done it). New motherboard usually have a cd with the drivers, but ignore that and just download from their website product page as those will have the most up to date drivers. For my build I literally just replaced mobo and installed new drivers for new motherboard, and worked perfectly fine.

True Windows is tied to MOBO, so you will probably have to call customer service to activate.  But why do you want the same MOBO?  The fact that your replacing a relatively new board should not make you want another...

It's broken. I don't want to get a different one if I don't have to.

Actually, fuck it. I'll get a different mobo, why the fuck not? I'll deal with it. Thanks for the tips and such, Heizu, I'll keep that in mind when I'm doing my thing. I'll be sure to select 2-3 shipping so I'll be doing this soon. Still not exactly sure what I want though... MSI Z87 SLI Krait edition looks sexy. I only have one GPU, but is it still a strong choice? If not, what else?
