Good day to the people of Linus tech Tips.

I would like to ask for help about a particular problem that im current having.

Here is the story.

Im currently using a VPN to connect to the webpage/login page of Black Desert Online http://blackdesert.pmang.jp This site is blocked to anyone outside of Japan.

The VPN im using is [softEther VPN], plus im also using the WTfast trick so that once im connected to the Server selection page in-game i can disconnect my VPN connection and continue surfing the web with my Local Internet Connection.

Now my problem is, is that WTfast's server is laggy as hell >.< around 350-450 ping in game sometimes it even spikes to 500+.

What i want to ask is. Is there a way to still use the VPN ( since using the VPN actually gives me better ping) while still being able to use my Local Internet Connection to surf and watch youtube vids with my browser.

This is how my Network adapter screen looks like.

Thanks for reading and have a pleasant day.

I believe the issue you are having is the VPN you are using is a full tunnel VPN. Meaning all your traffic goes through the VPN peer.

I doubt any free vpn on the web will give you what you are wanting.

Corporate VPN's typicaly have whats called a split tunnel that will make a virtual network adapter on the VPN client side and will have routes for the specific networks you are wanting access to and everything else goes across your local internet connection.

I have never had this problem of needing a VPN to the internet, besides some equipment I have in a server rack in a data center which my home firewall handles that traffic, so another forum member might know of some software to where you can specify which network adapter to send which traffic you want.

I hope to god there is some settings yu just enable to tell google which adapter to use.. or a browser that can chose witch route it takes Q.Q

Many people have the same problem. The answer is usually simple. In the VPN settings there is an advanced menu that has an advanced menu (menuception !!!) that you should uncheck the option of using remote network VPN for internet traffic. Simply follow the instructions below...

  • select your VPN connection, right click on it and press properties..
  • In the properties menu, click on "PPP settings" and check all checkboxes. This will give you better traffic speed and network response (especially when you compress the connections).
  • Finally, go to Networking tab, select "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" then click on properties and then click on advanced.Once there deselect the "Use default gateway on remote network" option. Click OK on all windows, disconnect and reconnect on the VPN. You're all good to go !

If you need any clarifications please let me know.

It is possible to tell your system to route only traffic going to Japanese IP's (or specify the game servers) thorough your VPN and all other traffic though your normal connection. However doing this in windows is difficult and it looks like the only way without using third-party programs is too do what has already been said above, there is more info about the same on superuser: https://superuser.com/questions/12022/how-can-i-make-the-windows-vpn-route-selective-traffic-by-destination-network

if you are using openvpn there's a setting to exclude the IP/websites you want, I believe that's whats softether use (or recommend to use) I use it occasionally.

so you can directly using your internet instead vpn to connect to those website/application.

however I forgot where's the menu located, eversince I upgrade my internet I just no longer satisfied with free services anymore, it just too slow.
Hope someone else can point you out.

If you are using special VPN software (besides microsoft VPN) then you should ask the support team of that specific software regarding this functionality on how to enable it if applicable.
