I'm pretty sure 16:9 will die out in the future and 21:9 will become the norm.

16:10 or 8:5 is dieing because it is considered an outdated format.

It is the same reason that 4:3 and 5:4 died out.

Why were they considered outdated? What do people like about wider monitors?

Since a lot of media content is being released at 16:9 ratio, it makes sense for hardware OEMs to apply that ratio.

I personally don't think 21:9 is going to be the "new standard" as some people hate it, and it doesn't make sense for multiple applications.

I mean 4:3 was and still is better for productivity, but it's an outdated standard now.

16:9 also looks much more sexier...

And to answer your question about smaller monitors, why the hell would you want a small monitor when you're using a desktop?

It doesn't make sense.

The point of using a desktop is to use a computer on a nice big screen.

If you cared about space, you should be buying laptops; not a desktop.

On a typical desk, you have space for monitors that are at least 23'.

How does it not make sense for multiple applications? It's basically like having two monitors side by side.

i wonder if they would make a 360 degrees true "surround" monitor

that would be fun to play with

You could just get 4 projectors and align the image in a circle around you happy.png

I wouldn't see any practical use for a full-surround monitor except for gaming, and then again there's no point of that because VR already exists and is getting cheaper

It's completely blown out of proportion. Also if you're the least bit worried about data gathering then you should go live in a cave a 1000Km from the nearest establishment simply because every device and every entity gathers information these days. In the current era privacy is just fallacy and nothing more.

You would have to crawl under it to get inside lol. I'm pretty sure most of the time you wouldn't even be looking behind you lol.

but that would be so awesome in fps games

say you are playing csgo then you will be able to physically turn around to see whats behind you

good point about the crawling part tho

ooh i know you can put a firepole in the middle

You get less vertical viewing space. In cases like web browsing, 4:3 makes much more sense.

There is a reason why the iPad and the Surface (Now even the Galaxy Tabs) are @ 4:3 instead of 16:10/16:9

connection technology where you can use a laptop as a monitor & keyboard for desktop PCs as long as the "monitor specs" are good?

My Alienware M18x has HDMI IN

So I can use it as a monitor for my PC, games console, Nvidia shield etc, you cant use the keyboard on it, but still :)
