I bought a dual channel kit of ram for my Z170 build but I've heard rumors that 6700ks wont be available in the US until late september or even later? Would this RAM still be fine if I go X99 instead? Would it be worth the hassle to send it back for different ram? I'd rather get the 6700k because its new and I don't need 6 cores for what I do but I don't plan to wait two months.

Also, is utilizing the quad channel on x99 vs. only having two sticks going to really make much difference?

It would be just fine, go for the i7-5820k, great bang for the buck. X99 chipset can use quad-channelled rams so you might wanna switch to that though.

i7-5820k > i7-6700k all the way, 2 more cores. The issue is the X99 mobo price, if you can afford it the it's a way better option.

Here's a list of all the mobos those G.Skills support. Here's the same for the Corsair kit. Stick to those boards and you're golden.

Having only two sticks in quad channel setup will drop it to single channel dropping the bandwidth to a quarter of what it'd be in quad channel. Depending on what you're doing, it might be devastating or unnoticeable.

Didn't even think about compatibility any more than if it was DDR4, thanks
