Setting up an SSD for cache?

EllieThePurpleFuzzy

Okay so, I'm going to get a new windows for my 850 evo, but i wondered in the mean time, my mum found my old Crucial M4 64Gb SSD and i was wondering if i can use it for cacheing with my WD Caviar blue Drive? and if so how can i set it up?

system specs are in signature if you need to find motherboard and stuff etc.

Not a big fan of caching but you can set it up with intel smart response if your board/cpu support that

How so?.

Found a guide to help, better than me fumble through explaining it

You pretty much just download the program from Intel, and use the program to allocate the drive as the cache drive

Did the same and ended up here...

https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/How-it-Works-Intel-SSD-Caching-148/

Setting up an SSD cache is very easy as long as the following requirements are met:

  1. The chipset supports Intel Smart Response Technology
  2. A traditional primary hard drive
  3. A secondary SSD drive
  4. The SATA controller must be set to RAID mode (no arrays need to be configured)
  5. The Intel RST software must be installed.
  6.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz
