Windows 10 activation

i recently built a new computer and carried the hard drive over with windows 10 already installed... now the activation key does not work any ideas on why

You sure you're typing it in correctly? You're using a retail disk or what?

I built my new computer and took the hard drive out of my old one and put it in my new one and now windows wont activate

Because windows is tied to your motherboard.

When Windows detects a major hardware change on the system, it deactivates the key. You have to contact Microsoft to get it reactivated.

Windows keys are tied your your motherboard. You need to go back to your old computer mobo combo and than deactivate the key on the old computer and reactivate windows on the new computer. I don't know to much about it, but if you google it, you should be able to find a bunch of answers and how toos.
