Cant add more RAM

Go to solution Solved by MegabassNote,

lol yea.. idk.. is there like a tool to diagnose this? tell me whats wrong?

Unfortunately, I'm not aware of one. If you can find a manual online or get support through gigabyte, they might be able to assist you better. Depending on how old your motherboard is, it might be under manufacturer warranty still.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help to you.

I cant seem to add more ram to the computer. i have 2x4gb sticks in but i add another 2 the computer turns on, but nothing shows on the screen. It will reboot. couple of times and then i have to turn it off manually(pressing the PW button).

and before when i tried moving things around. in order to get it to boot up with the 2x4gb i had to reset the cmos.

My specs are a gigabyte z97x sli

i5 4690k

ram is 2 team zeus red 4gb

i have a msi gtx 970 on it

Is all the RAM compatible with the motherboard? Check the website of the board to make sure

Sounds like you might have a bad board, its supposed to support up to 32 Gigs and up to 3000Mhz overclocked. Can't tell you why its not working honestly, unless you have an overclock applied that might be messing it up.

did you add the same model

You can mix and match as long as their not on the same channel and their not overclock.

did you try resetign cmos

xmp could be causing the problem

if i add remove ANY stick, i have to reset the cmos. so say i add a 3rd. i have to reset it. but it wont work at all. if i got back to 2 i have to reset it again and it'll work.

but anything more than 2 it wont boot no matter how many times i do it.

i thought you needed same clock and timings

If you're trying to overclock the memory you do, if not as long as you don't mix models on the same channel and they are capable of running at the same frequencies, the timings don't matter, you're fine, I've got two different kits in my rig and have for a while with no side effects other then them not overclocking.

i dont think its about overclocking

most motherboard will underclock the faster modules

i think it might be the board too, but i have no issues whatsoever other than that... 2 of the sticks are brand new too. they were send because i thought the other 2 was the problem.

another thing is i cant have them different slots(like you go 1,3 2,4. like they have to be right next to each other so 1,2 3,4

Only thing I think is make sure their in the correct slots. Model A in slot 1 and 3, and Model B in Slot 2 and 4. The slots should also be color coded to find which ones are on the same channel. So if you had Black and Blue memory slot, Black would be for one channel and Blue would be for the other. Hope that made sense, I don't always explain things well sometimes.

--EDIT--

Now that I reread your reply, I see you tried that so nevermind lol

Unfortunately, I'm not aware of one. If you can find a manual online or get support through gigabyte, they might be able to assist you better. Depending on how old your motherboard is, it might be under manufacturer warranty still.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help to you.
