GPU Pickle

Hi Guys

 

helping a mate of mine build a PC. hes got everything he wants, except the GPU. hes budget conscience and is looking at the GTX 970 or the R9 390. he does like playing games such as the AC series and most games which are NVidia optimized. however, the R9 390 is just a tad cheaper.

 

opinions?

 

P.S I recommended the 970 because he wants to play some Nvidia games but hes seen reviews saying the r9 390 can actually be a bit better

Nvidia optimism doesn't really mean anything, if the 390 performs better, go for it. Especially if it is cheaper.

the r9 390 can perform a bit better than the 970 plus the extra 4 GB of vram is a benefit

Theyre really not gonna be far off at all no matter what game youre going for.

If hes someone who likes to play things like Skyrim with high resolution textures then I can see the 390 pulling away there since its VRAM will allow for it, but other than that the difference is most games is nominal at most.

he, as I said, like most games that are unfortunately optimized for Nvidia but he does like the Total war series as well. anyway, thanks for the opinions
