TV vs. Monitor

Go to solution Solved by Glenwing,

The technical difference is that a TV takes cable input or other television broadcast mediums. Monitors aren't designed to receive television broadcasts. TVs are also designed to use a standalone unit, so they have things like a remote control while monitors usually don't.

Definitions aside, most monitors have better panels and more accurate colors than TVs. Monitors have less image processing and simpler software, and so have lower latency than TVs (not to be confused with response time). Monitors also go up to 120/144Hz refresh rates, TVs max out at 60.

Hello, I was looking at 4k monitors and TV's that are 40 inches and I noticed that the monitors were at least $100 more expensive. Why is this the case? What is the difference between a TV and monitor anyway? Thanks.

TV's have lower refresh rate, more delay, less pixel depth (4k TV pixel depth probably = 1080p screen pixel depth, (Napkin Math)
