I'm getting a new monitor for a new pc and there are two that I'm looking at right now, They are both about the same price give or take around 10 bucks, but one is 27" without IPS and the other is 24" with IPS. I'd like a bigger monitor and at about $160 thats the best price I see for one that size, so do I really need IPS?

p.s. I might add another monitor later so I might go with the smaller IPS one for now, make that my current primary monitor, then save up more and get a big IPS monitor later and keep the 24" one as a secondary. Good idea or bad idea? (it will cost about $250 more in the end)

I've never seen a TN and an IPS side by side.

What's the actual difference?

I have a window seat so I see the worst of both. I have a Dell UltraSharp on one end and an ASUS 75hz TN on the other. The Dell handles the sunlight backing a lot better but with enough calibration a good TN panel can look similar but the colors aren't quite as accurate.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

I don't really get what is meant by "color accuracy". All the colors look normal (actually better than on a "TV") to me.

It's hard to explain but they look more "true to life" if you will. Blacks (not the race ya dingus) can look better on a good IPS panel too.

Basically colors look spectacular. I suggest going to a Best Buy where you can find Dell XPS laptops next to shitty laptops with TNs.

Maybe to view them. Although I wouldn't expect anyone in my local best buy to know what a TN or an IPS panel are.

Seriously, the people at my local best buy are absolutely worthless

People are my Best Buy are super awesome. I always try to find ones out of their area so I know I can get advice without them getting paid on commission. Helps get actual help from them :D
